WRESTLING CAMP: TROY'S SEYMOUR A FEATURED INSTRUCTOR AT WAVERLY CAMP (2021-07-15)

Northern Tier Sports Report
WAVERLY, N.Y. — Troy’s Sheldon Seymour has been keeping himself busy this offseason, which included a trip up to the Waverly Wrestling Camp on Thursday.

The Lehigh wrestler, though, was coming in as an instructor just a few short years after he would be a participant in a camp like this.

“I think it’s just full circle,” said Seymour. “I get to teach the stuff that I’ve learned throughout my years doing this sport. This is a good way to give back.”

Waverly wrestling coach Devan Witman contacted Sheldon’s dad about seeing if he would be interested in coming in for the day.

“I was like ‘absolutely,’” said Seymour.

The camp featured two different groups - 7th-12th graders, and elementary kids, with Seymour working with both.

“It makes it fun,” he said. “You’re doing two different things, but with the same sport.”

He did technical aspects with the older kids, while having the younger kids do game-like drills that help with their wrestling.

“The little kids, you have the shorter range to teach them,” said Seymour. “They don’t have as long of an attention span. So you have to keep everything short, and concise, and it just makes everything fun.”

It’s not much different than when Seymour went to camps at that age, only now he’s the one signing autographs instead of asking for them.

“It brings back the memories of when I was that age, and just like picking up the sport,” he explained. “Just trying to have fun, and not really worry about the competition aspect of it.”
