THE WEEK AHEAD: WINTER SPORTS STARTS FOR MOST AREA TEAMS (2021-12-05)

Winter sports starts this weekend with several tournament across basketball and wrestling.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Friday, December 11

Troy vs MMI Prep at Sullivan County, 6 p.m.: The Trojans will make their annual trip to Laporte for the Griffin Showcase. Troy returns much of their NTL winning team from last year, while adding several new pieces.

Wyalusing vs Blue Ridge at Sayre, 6 p.m.: The Rams will take part in the Bradford-Susquehanna County Challenge, hosted by the ‘Skins this year. Wyalusing returns much of their district winning team from a year ago.

Canton at Galeton Tournament: It will be a quick turnaround for the Warriors who play football as they transition to the court. Canton returns much of last year’s playoff qualifying team.

NEB at Montgomery Tournament: NEB will take part in the annual Red Raider tournament to tip-off their season. The Panthers won the title two years ago when it was last held.

Saturday, December 12

Troy vs Sullivan County, 3:30 p.m.: The Trojans will face the hosts on the second day of the tournament.

Wyalusing vs Susquehanna at Sayre, 6 p.m.: The Rams will face Susquehanna during the second day of the showcase.

Canton at Galeton Tournament: The Warriors will return to Galeton for the second day of the tournament.

NEB at Montgomery Tournament: The Panthers make the trip down south for the second day of the tournament.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Friday, December 11

Wyalusing at Susquehanna, 7 p.m.: The Rams open their season on the road as they travel to Susquehanna. Wyalusing will feature several new faces on the court this year.

Canton at NP-Liberty Tournament: The Warriors will travel over the hill for the annual Liberty tournament. Canton returns several players from last year’s team.

NEB at Millville Tournament: The Panthers open the season on the road as they take the trip down south. They return much of their NTL winning squad from last year.

Saturday, December 12

Canton at NP-Liberty Tournament: Canton returns for the second day of the Liberty Tournament.

NEB at Millville Tournament: The Panthers will return for the second day of the Quaker Tournament.

Jersey Shore at Troy, 7:30 p.m.: A revamped Trojan squad will host Jersey Shore for the second year in a row to start the season.

WRESTLING

Friday, December 10

Troy at DKI: The Trojans will travel to Bloomsburg’s annual tournament, featuring regional qualifier Seth Seymour.

Williamson at NEB, 7 p.m.: The Panthers open the dual meet season at home. They’ve doubled their numbers from last year with several new faces on the roster.

Saturday, December 11

Troy at DKI: The Trojans return for the second day of the DKI.

Wyalusing hosts the Gary Woodruff Duals: The Rams bring back their annual season opening dual’s tournament. Wyalusing features 2021 regional qualifier Nick Woodruff.
