NTL WRESTLING: CANTON'S WARD, LANDIS, AND NELSON BRING HOME MEDALS FROM MID-WINTER MAYHEM (2022-01-08)
Northern Tier Sports ReportINDIANA — Hayden Ward came in fourth place as Canton had three wrestlers reach the podium at the Mid-Winter Mayhem Tournament on Saturday.
After Ward (152), Cohen Landis (113) took sixth, and Mason Nelson (285) finished seventh.
Ward was pinned by Daniel Boone’s JT Hogan in the semifinals, but came back to win 5-4 over North Allegheny’s Travis Stipetich in the consolation semifinals. In the third place bout Ward lost 4-1 to St. Mary’s Lane Dellaquilla.
Landis opened the day with a 3-1 win over Forest Hills’ Brevin Michuk, but lost in the consolation semifinals to Clearfield’s Evan Davis by fall in 54 seconds. In the fifth place match Landis fell 2-0 to North Allegany’s William Bentrim.
Nelson opened the day with a 4-0 loss to St. Joe’s Prep’s Maxwell Roy, but ended the day strong, with a fall over Benton’s Andrew Wolfe in the seventh place match, getting the pin in 3:23.
As a team Canton finished 13th with 74.5 points, just behind Athens (79.5). Fellow District IV teams Benton (149.5) and Montgomery (138) were fourth and fifth.
Canton will travel to Athens on Tuesday, then host a tri-meet with Sayre and Williamson on Wednesday.
