NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: TROY USES BIG SECOND HALF TO PULL AWAY FROM TOWANDA (2022-01-12)
Northern Tier Sports ReportTROY — For a half Towanda hung with Troy, but the Trojans out scored the Knights 37-16 in the second half to pull away for the 68-43 win during NTL Division-I boys’ basketball action Wednesday.
The win keeps Troy in the lead of the division with an undefeated league record.
Justice Chimics led the Trojans with 15 points off the bench, a career high for him, as four Troy players hit double figures. Ty Barrett added 13, Zeb Oldroyd scored 12, and Mason Imbt notched 10.
Ethan VanNoy chipped in with seven points, Lance Heasley had four, Jackson Taylor added three, with Joe Frye, and Evan Woodward getting two points a piece.
Teagan Irish led Towanda with a career high 19 points, while Dante Ottaviani added 15, including four 3-pointers. Mason Hartmann had four points, Elias Shrawder scored three, with Grady Lynn, and Logan Lambert netting one point each.
Chimics started hot for Troy, scoring seven points in the first quarter, to put them up 19-15 at the first horn. Irish, though, was just as hot, netting eight points for the Knights as they kept pace.
In the second the two teams were even at 12-points each. Five different Trojans scored, led by Heasley’s four points, while for Towanda Irish and Ottaviani had five points apiece.
In the third quarter, though, Troy had eight field goals to run off 24 points, led by eight from Oldroyd, and six from Barrett and Chimics.
That allowed them to jump out to a 55-40 lead, as Towanda tried to keep in tough with three 3-balls during the frame.
In the fourth Troy held the Knights to just three points, as Imbt led the way with four for them.
After an extended road trip Towanda will host NP-Mansfield on Friday, while Troy travels to Williamson - both 7:30 p.m. starts.
