NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: WYALUSING USES STINGY DEFENSE TO TOP NP-MANSFIELD (2022-01-25)

Northern Tier Sports Report
MANSFIELD — Wyalusing shut down NP-Mansfield’s offense as they picked up another NTL boys’ basketball win, beating the Tigers 45-31 on Tuesday.

Grayden Cobb had a game high 17 points for the Rams, while Blake Morningstar netted 13 and Isaiah Way had 10 to put three in green into double figures.

Kashawn Cameron chipped in with three points, while Nolan Oswald finished with two.

Alex Davis led NPM with 10 points, as Wyalusing held NPM’s top two scorers - Brody Burleigh and Karson Dominick - to just six points each.

Wyalusing jumped out early, taking a 17-10 lead after the first quarter behind nine points from Morningstar, and three 3-balls as a team.

The offense slowed down in the second quarter, but Wyalusing still out played NPM, 9-6, behind five points from Cobb, to take a 26-16 halftime lead.

The Tigers chipped away during the third, as Dominick had four points to help them cut it to 32-25.

In the fourth, though, Wyalusing pulled away, going 7-for-9 from the charity stripe as they out scored NPM 13-6 to get the win.

The win keeps the Rams two games up on Canton in the loss column for the NTL Division-II title. Canton lost to NP-Mansfield back in December, so this effectively helps Wyalusing gain a game on them.

The loss for NPM likely ends any chance they had at an NTL Division-I title, giving them three league losses on the season as they sit in fourth place.

Wyalusing will look to make it 3-for-3 for cross-over wins as they host Wellsboro on Thursday. They rallied to beat Athens on Friday before getting the win at NP-Mansfield Tuesday.
