NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: BOTTS, ZIONKOWSKI LEAD WYALUSING PAST CV (2022-01-26)

WESTFIELD — Wyalusing held on to beat CV 45-41 in NTL girls’ basketball action Wednesday.

Layla Botts and Bryn Zionkowski combined for 34 points as the Rams survived a 14-point fourth quarter rally from the Indians to pull out the win.


Zionkowski had 17 points - including five 3-balls - as Botts also had 17 points to go with three boards, and four assists. Botts only had one field goal, but went 15-for-22 from the line.


Marissa Johnson finished with four points, and three boards, while Olivia Spencer had three points, and four rebounds. Olivia Leichliter notched two points to go with 12 rebounds, and three steals, as Elana Jennings also had two points. Chloe Bennett chipped in with four boards.


Ashley Woodring led CV with 16 points.


The Indians led 9-5 after the first quarter, but a 17-point second quarter by Wyalusing saw them take a 22-18 lead at the half. Botts didn’t have a field goal in the second, but was 8-for-12 from the charity stripe to lead the Rams’ comeback.


In the third Zionkowski had eight points - including two deep balls - to help Wyalusing extend their advantage to 32-27.


CV rallied in the fourth, but the Rams used two field goals, including a 3-pointer, and an 8-for-14 performance from the free throw line to hold on to the lead. Botts was 7-for-10 herself in the quarter.


Wyalusing will now host Canton on Friday with a 6 p.m. start time.
