NTL WRESTLING: CANTON HAS THREE INTO SEMIFINALS AT ULTIMATE WARRIOR (2022-01-28)

WEST BRANCH — Canton had three wrestlers reach the semifinals at the Ultimate Warrior Tournament on Friday.

Hayden Ward (152), Mason Nelson (285), and Riley Parker (189) all made it to the semis, while six other wrestlers are still alive in the consolations.


Hayden opened with a fall, followed by a 12-3 major decision. Then, in the quarters, he pinned Clearfield’s Karson Kline in 3:35 to get the semis, where he goes up against Philipsburg-Osceola’s Austin Foster.


Nelson opened with a fall, then had a 10-0 major decision over Hickory’s Nick Maule in the quarters to reach the semifinals. He will take on Clearfield’s Oliver Billotte in the final four.


Parker opened with a fall, then edged Central Mountain’s Damien Galentine 3-2 in the quarters to get to the semifinals, where he will face Bald Eagle’s Noah Foltz.


Bailey Ferguson (145), Brenen Taylor (160), Cohen Landis (113), Holden Ward (126), Hudson Ward (138), and Lyle Vermilya (106) are still alive in the wrestle backs.


Ferguson opened with a 10-0 win, but fell 10-4 in the quarters. He will face Clearfield’s Luke Freeland in the consolation round of eight.


Taylor opened with a fall, followed by a 6-0 decision, but then got pinned in the quarters. He takes on Reynolds’ Vito Gentile in the next round.


Landis opened with an 11-1 major, but then was pinned in the quarters. He faces Bentworth’s Max Ivcic in the consolations.


Holden opened the tournament with a fall, then followed that up with a 10-8 decision. He lost 16-3 in the quarters, and will take on Brockway’s Parker Pisarchick in the wrestle backs.


Hudson opened with a fall, followed by a 3-1 decision, but was tech called 16-1 in the quarters. He will face Central Mountain’s Braylen Corter in the next round.


Vermilya scored an opening round pin, but then was pinned in the next round to fall to the consolations. He then scored wins of 3-0, and 3-1 to stay alive in the wrestle backs, and will now face Wilson’s Giovanni Dibiagio in the next round.


Cayden Miller (126), Levi Pepper (172), and Victor Vasquez (138) all went 1-2, while Ryland Sakers (132) finished 0-2.


Canton was sixth with 76 points after the first day.
