NTL SOFTBALL: CANTON USES BIG FOURTH INNING TO TOP TOWANDA (2022-05-11)

WYSOX — Canton used a 7-run fourth inning to pull away from Towanda, 10-0, during NTL softball action Wednesday.

The Warriors got on the scoreboard in the top of the second, then, after taking an 8-0 lead, added runs in the fifth and seventh.

Keri Wesneski got the win, striking out four while allowing no walks, and six hits.

Sara Saar (2-for-4) had a triple with three runs scored, as Mae Kinner (1-for-4) hit a home run to go with two runs scored, and 3-RBI.

Emmi Ward (1-for-4), Taryn Acla (1-for-4), Molly Ward (1-for-4), Madison Hulbert (1-for-4), and Alexis Baldwin (1-for-4) all had hits. Emmi Ward, Acla, Wesneski, Molly Ward, and Hulbert all scored, with Hulbert, Molly Ward, and Acla each getting an RBI.

Jocelyn Bennett (2-for-3) led Towanda at the plate, with Paige Perry (1-for-3), Aleah Johnson (1-for-3), Shaylee Greenland (1-for-3), and TaeLynn Brabant (1-for-2) also getting hits.

Greenland went the first 3 2/3-innings to take the loss, striking out five with no walks, four hits, and eight runs, only one of which was earned.

Aleah Johnson went the next 3 1/3-innings, striking out three with no walks, no hits, and two earned runs.

Kinner hit a solo home run in the second to put Canton up 1-0.

Then, in the fourth, Canton batted around, beginning with Wesneski reaching on an error. Molly Ward then plated Wesneski with a hit.

Saar then reached on an error, followed by Kinner scoring on a dropped third strike, which Molly Ward scored on.

Saar later took home on an error off the bat of Hulbert to make it 4-0. Kinner and Hulbert would each score home to make it 6-0, but Towanda was able to get two outs.

After Emmi Ward reach on an error, she would score on an Acla single for a 7-0 lead. The final run came as Acla scored on an error off the bat of Wesneski.

Saar then led off the fifth with a hit, and scored on a ground out off the bat of Kinner for a 9-0 lead.

Saar then led off the seventh with a triple, then scored on a steal of home for the 10th run.

Towanda will host Wellsboro on Thursday for their annual Pink Game, while Canton travels to Montgomery on Friday.
