NTL SOFTBALL: TOWANDA PULLS OUT 'PINK GAME' WIN OVER WELLSBORO (2022-05-12)

WYSOX — A 4-run second inning propelled Towanda to a 5-3 win over Wellsboro in NTL softball action Thursday.

It was Towanda’s ‘Pink Game’, and they raised over $1400 dollars to help Heidi Henry in her fight against cancer.

The 4-0 lead stuck until the top of the fifth, when the Hornets pushed two across. Towanda got one back in the sixth, but in the seventh the Hornets threatened again, getting one across, but Towanda stopped them there.

Jocelyn Bennett (1-for-4) had a double, while Brea Overpeck (1-for-1) getting an RBI, and walking three times.

Aleah Johnson (1-for-4) also had an RBI, as Lilly Schoonover (1-for-3) scored a run. Addie Fulmer scored twice, with Kynlee Kunkle and TaeLynn Brabant also crossing home.

Shaylee Greenland went the distance in the win, striking out 10 with five hits, no walks, and three runs, two of which were earned.

Towanda’s bottom second rally began with a 1-out walk to Kunkle, followed by Schoonover hitting a single. Fulmer then walked to load the bases, setting up Kunkle scoring on an error off the bat of Bennett.

An error off the bat of Brabant then scored Schoonover, with Fulmer following her home for a 3-0 lead.

Johnson then singled in Brabant to put Towanda up 4-0.

Wellsboro used a double to score two runs in the fifth, but in the sixth Towanda struck back as a 2-out Overpeck single brought in Fulmer to make it 5-2.

In the seventh Wellsboro scored, and had the tying run on first base with one out, when Greenland struck out back to back batters to secure the win.

Towanda (5-11) will host Troy on Friday.
