LITTLE LEAGUE: TOWANDA SURVIVES LATE PUSH FROM RTL (2022-07-01)

TOWANDA — The Towanda minors all-star baseball team survived a strong rally from RTL in their 10-8 bracket play win on Friday.

The victory keeps Towanda’s season alive as they will play the winner of Canton and Southern Tioga in the consolation final. RTL has been knocked out of the tournament.

Towanda used a 2-run first, and a four run second to take a 6-0 lead. They added another two runs in the top of the third to make it 8-0, but RTL score a run themselves in the bottom half.

Towanda made it 9-1 with another run in the top of the fourth, but that’s when RTL rallied, scoring seven runs in the bottom half of the inning to cut it to 9-8.

Towanda got an insurance run in the top of the fifth, then held RTL scoreless for the next two innings to hold on for the win.

Wyatt Jones was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored, and 2-RBI for Towanda, while Drew Maghamez went 1-for-3 with two runs scored, and an RBI.

Scout Nemeth was 1-for-2 with two runs scored, Cash Raffin went 1-for-2 with a run scored, and Brayden Cox was 1-for-4 with a run scored. Hudson Nash scored twice while Arlo Snyder knocked in a run.

Nash started, and went three innings to get the win, striking out seven in the process. Maghamez went two innings to strikeout three, while Nolyn Tuttle went the last inning, striking out two.

Eli Tinna went 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored, and 2-RBI for RTL, while Garrett Gowin went 1-for-4 with two runs scored, and an RBI. Parker Sands and Grayson Johnson went 1-for-2 with a run scored, while Tucker Browning scored a run, and knocked in two. 

Noah Shaffer scored and had an RBI, with Sawyer Clouse also finding home.

Shaffer started, and went two innings with four strikeouts. Tinna went the final four innings with six strikeouts.
