NTL VOLLEYBALL: CANTON COMES UP SHORT AGAINST NPL (2022-09-21)

LIBERTY — Canton jumped out to a first set lead on NP-Liberty, but the Mounties charged back, and defended their 6-year NTL win streak, beating the Warriors 3-1 during volleyball action Tuesday.

Canton won the first set 25-13, but lost the next three 25-9, 25-23, and 25-10.


Aislyn Williams had 10 points, two aces, five kills, three assists, 13 digs, and a block for Canton, while Allyson Butcher returned to the line-up with eight points, one ace, four kills, 14 assists, and 21 digs.


Jillaney Hartford had seven points, an ace, seven kills, four digs, and a block, as Keri Wesneski finished with 15 points, three aces, four kills, two assists, and nine digs.


Kendall Kitchen added six points, an ace, one kill, and six digs, Marissa Ostrander notched nine points, three aces, one kill, two assists, and 14 digs, while Chelsea Lehman had two kills, one dig, and one block. Madison Hulbert chipped in with a dig.


Canton jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the first set on backs of three aces and three kills. NPL would rally to make it 10-5, and from there they went back and forth for a few points. When it was 12-7 Canton made another run, pushing their lead to 19-10 behind four kills, two from Williams.


From there Canton out pointed them 6-3, ending with back to back Wesneski kills.


NPL won the JV match 25-5, and 25-13.


Kitchen had two kills, three digs, and an assist while Addilyn Pepper had an ace, a kill, four digs, and three assists. 


Lehman had a kill with four digs, as Abbey Marbaker finished with an ace and a dig. Allyson Marbaker and Charleigh Anderson had two digs apiece, while Tara Gilbert had one kill.


Canton travels to Wellsboro on Thursday.
