NTL GOLF: TOWANDA'S LANTZ PLEASED WITH TEAM'S IMPROVEMENT IN 2022 (2022-11-13)

Northern Tier Sports Report
Towanda didn’t have the best season on the links from a wins-and-losses perspective, but coach Paul Lantz liked what he saw in terms of improvement from his team.

“Team wins and losses aren’t a reflection of the individual successes we had this season,” said Lantz. “We had a young, inexperienced squad that continued to grow throughout the season.

“We had the NTL’s Most Improved golfer in Carson Glantz, who improved his score by 34 shots from last year,” he added. “Teagan Irish started playing golf in May, and finished the season with a 94 average overall.”

Towanda went 7-35 on the year, consistently besting Sayre in all the NTL matches. Their best score was Tomasso’s, where they shot 423 as a team.

Irish’s best NTL match was a 95 at his home course of Towanda, while Glantz shot a 100 that same day. He finished with a 109.71 average.

“Our future looks bright with Teagan and Carson returning, along with our. Young first-year freshmen Landon Clark, Blaine McCarthy, and Ashlyn Fulmer,” said Lantz. “We also added four junior high players — Graham Welles, Tommy Bowen, Owen Savercool, and Boom Thompson — to the mix.

“I think one of the keys to our future success is that they all like to play golf,” added Lantz. “They play extra after practice, and are at the course on their offense days. I am excited to see how they progress in 2023.”

They say good-bye to their senior girls in Jill Packard and Paige Perry. Perry made the second day of districts, finishing with the 8th best score that day, and 13th overall.

“We will certainly miss our two senior girls,” Lantz said. “Our district has some really good female golfers, as the three girls that advanced to states all finished in the top 15.”

With all this youth, Lantz is hoping to work his way up the NTL ladder in 2023.

“I am looking forward to 2023, as we continue to build our team,” he said. “Hopefully, we can recruit a few additional male and female golfers for next year, as well.”
