There were some good opening weekend performances for winter sports, but it was the final fall sports contest that produced this week’s Athlete of the Week for boys.

Canton’s Austin Allen had an interception on the best quarterback in Class A, defended a pass to the end zone, and finished with six unassisted tackles in the loss to Steel-High this past weekend to earn Athlete of the Week honors.

On the girls’ side NEB’s Kayleigh Thoman helped lead the Panthers to a second straight Millville Girls’ Basketball Tournament Title. She was named the Tournament MVP as she averaged 15 PPG, 4 RPG, 3 SPG, 3 ASP.

Notables: Canton’s Weston Bellows* ran for 120 yards and had a touchdown pass in the loss to Steel-High…Troy’s Evan Woodward had 22 points, including six 3-pointers in a win over Benton…Wyalusing’s Blake Morningstar averaged 26.5 PPG as they went 1-1 this weekend…Wyalusing’s C.J. Carr went undefeated at the Gary Woodruff Duals…Canton’s Kendall Kitchen finished with 18 points in a win over Montgomery…Towanda’s Paige Manchester had 12 points, 10 rebounds, and seven blocks in a loss to Loyalsock…Towanda’s Justin Schoonover had nine points and six boards in a win over CV
