THE WEEK AHEAD: BUSY WEEK AS WINTER SPORTS GET GOING (2022-12-04)

Northern Tier Sports Report
This will be the first full week of winter sports as teams look to hit their stride before Christmas break.


BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Monday, December 5

NEB at Elk Lake, 7 p.m.: The Panthers open their season on the road as they look start things off on a good foot. Elk Lake edged NEB last year in their opener.


Wednesday, December 7

NEB at Troy (1-0), 7:15 p.m.: The league opener for both teams, with Troy coming off a big win over Benton in their season opener last week.


Sayre at Towanda (1-0), 7:15 p.m.: The Knights will look to keep their momentum going from their win over CV as they get another home game against a new look Sayre team.


Friday, December 9

NEB at Montgomery Tournament: The Panthers head down south for their annual trip to the Montgomery Tournament.


Troy at Sullivan County Tournament: The Trojans will head back to the Sullivan County Tournament after winning both games down there last year.


Saturday, December 10

NEB at Montgomery Tournament: The second day of the Montgomery Tournament.


Troy at Sullivan County Tournament: The second day of the Sullivan County Tournament.


GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Tuesday, December 6

Troy at NEB (2-0), 7:15 p.m.: The league opener for both teams as NEB looks to keep their strong early season momentum going after winning the Millville Tournament. 


Wyalusing at Canton (1-1), 7:15 p.m.: The season opener for the Rams, while Canton is coming off a split at the NTL Tournament.


Towanda (0-1) at Sayre, 7:15 p.m.: The Knights will be looking to rebound after a tough loss to Loyalsock last Friday.


Thursday, December 8

Williamson (1-) at NEB (2-0), 7:15 p.m.: The home stand continues for the Panthers as they take on division foe Williamson. The Warriors beat Galeton in their season opener.


Troy at Canton (1-1), 7:15 p.m.: A rivalry game for these two, one which came down to the wire last season in Troy’s win.


Wyalusing at NP-Liberty (1-1), 7:15 p.m.: The second game in three days for the Rams as they get their season underway. NPL split at their season opening tournament.


Saturday, December 10

Sayre at Wyalusing, 1 p.m.: The Rams finally get a home game as they face their third opponent in five days this week.


Troy at Elk Lake, 1 p.m.: Troy’s road trip continues with their third game in five days, this one a non-league contest.


WRESTLING

Tuesday, December 6

Troy at Williamson (1-0), 7 p.m.: The Trojans head west to open their season against the Warriors. Williams on defeated NEB in their season opener last Friday.


Wednesday, December 7

Athens at NEB (0-1), 7 p.m.: The Panthers’ home opener as they host Athens for an NTL tilt. NEB is looking to rebound from their loss to Williamson.


Wellsboro at Wyalusing (3-2), 7 p.m.: The league opener for the Rams as they look to break a 2-match losing streak going back to their Gary Woodruff Duals.


Friday, December 9

Troy at DKI: The Trojans head down to Bloomsburg for their annual invitational, which normally kicks off the season.


Saturday, December 10

Troy at DKI: The second day of the tournament for the Trojans, which ends a busy week for them.
