COLLEGE: SEVERAL LOCALS SEEING TIME THIS WINTER SPORTS SEASON (2023-01-03)
Northern Tier Sports ReportWinter sports is in full swing, not just in high school, but also collegiately, with several former athletes getting time at the next level.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Maisie Neuber, Delaware Valley
NEB graduate Maisie Neuber has started 11 of her team’s 13 games this season, and is averaging nearly 35 minutes per game. She’s up to 9.8 points per game and 6.8 rebound per game.
She’s scored in double digits six of her last seven games, including a season high 18 points in an 8-for-10 shooting performance against Elizabethtown.
Currently, DeVal is 7-6 on the season, and 3-1 in league play.
Vicky Rought, Elmira
The NEB graduate has seen action in three games this year, averaging 4.3 PPG and 2.0 RPG when she gets in.
Against Oberlin at the end of the month Rought had four points, while she had a season high seven points and four boards against Wells.
Elmira is currently 4-4 on the year.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Ty Barrett, Mansfield University
Troy graduate Ty Barrett has slowly seen his playing time increase as the year’s gone on. The freshman has seen time in seven games this year, averaging six minutes per outing.
Barrett is scoring 1.4 PPG, and has three assists on the year.
The Mounties are currently 2-7 on the year.
WRESTLING
Sheldon Seymour, Lehigh University
Seymour took seventh at the rugged 58th Midlands Championships over Christmas Break.
Competing unattached, Seymour went 4-2 on the day at 125 pounds, reaching the quarterfinals before falling to the eventual champion, Eric Barnett of Wisconsin.
His first two matches were wins of 12-3 and 3-2.
He beat Rutgers’ Dylan Shawver in the consolations to earn a podium spot, then ended the tournament strong with a 15-5 victory over Indiana’s Jacob Moran to take seventh.
