NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: CANTON FALLS TO WELLSBORO AFTER TOUGH SECOND HALF (2023-01-17)

Northern Tier Sports Report
CANTON — Canton led Wellsboro at the half but only scored five points in the second half as the Hornets pull away for a 51-34 win during NTL boys’ basketball action Tuesday.

The Warriors used hot shooting to get out ahead of Wellsboro, making six of their seven 3-balls in the first half. That dried up quickly in the second half, as they just had one field goal in the final two frames.

Weston Bellows had 13 points to lead Canton, with Austin Allen adding 11. Ben Fitch scored eight, with Kyle Kapichok netting two.

Peyton McClure had 23 points, including five 3-balls, to lead the Hornets.

They were tied after one, with Bellows pouring in six points for the Warriors, who had three 3-pointers in the frame.

In the second Canton out scored them 17-14 behind five points from Bellows, Allen, and Fitch each.

McClure came alive in the third, though, with 10 points, while Wellsboro held Canton to just an Allen 3-ball, taking a 41-32 lead.

In the final frame Canton’s only points were a pair of Bellows free throws as the Hornets secure the win.

Canton (6-6) will host NTL leading NP-Mansfield on Thursday.
