NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: ROUGH SECOND QUARTER HURTS CANTON IN LOSS TO WELLSBORO (2023-01-18)

Northern Tier Sports Report
CANTON — Canton couldn’t overcome a rough second quarter in their 42-33 loss to Wellsboro during NTL girls’ basketball action Wednesday.

They had an early 2-point lead after the first horn, but were out scored 16-4 in the second frame to fall down 21-11 at the half. Their offense got back on track in the second half, but they couldn’t complete the comeback.

Carolyn Thoren had 15 points, four boards, and two blocks for the Warriors, while Emmie Tymeson added 13 points and five steals.

Molly Ward added three points, 13 rebounds, five assists, and three steals, with Jazmyn Hickok netting two points to go with three steals. Sara Davy chipped in with four assists.

Paige Logsdon led Wellsboro with 14 points.

Canton was strong early on defense, holding the Hornets to just five first quarter points, which allowed them to take a 7-5 lead behind three points from Thoren.

In the second quarter, though, Tymeson’s two field goals were their only points as Logsdon led the Hornets with eight to help them build the 10-point lead at the break.

The Warriors found some more offense in the third, as Thoren had six points and Tymeson four, but five different players scored for the Hornets as they extended their lead to 33-21.

Canton would out score Wellsboro in the fourth behind five from Tymeson - including the team’s only 3-ball - and six out of Thoren, but it wasn’t enough.

Canton (7-8) will travel to Williamson on Friday.
