NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: WOODRUFF, MANCHESTER LEAD TOWANDA PAST NPL

TOWANDA — Towanda used a strong defensive effort over the middle quarters to beat NPL, 44-29, and stay undefeated in the NTL during girls’ basketball action Wednesday.
Paige Manchester had a double-double of 18 points and 11 boards for the Knights, to go with four steals.
Brynn Woodruff also had a double-double, with 14 points and 12 rebounds, plus three steals.
Gracie Schoonover added seven points, eight boards, and five blocks, as Bella Hurley had three points and three steals. Melody Hakes chipped in with two points.
Towanda led just 10-9 after the first quarter, thanks to six points from NPL’s Sidney Landis. Woodruff started strong, though, with seven for the Knights.
In the second they held the Mounties to just five points, while Manchester got going, netting seven of her team’s 12 points to give them a 22-14 lead at the break.
The Knight defense stayed tight in the third, holding NPL to another five point quarter.
On offense Manchester and Woodruff had five points each, helping them to build a 35-19 lead going into the final frame.
NPL would out score them 10-9 in the fourth, but it wasn’t enough to rally back.
Towanda (9-3) hosts NP-Mansfield on Friday.
