NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: WYALUSING COMES UP SHORT AGAINST NPM IN OT (2023-01-18)

Northern Tier Sports Report
MANSFIELD — Wyalusing and NP-Mansfield can’t stop going into extra time. After playing to three overtimes over Christmas break, they only went into one extra period on Wednesday, and this time the Tigers came out on top, 41-38, during NTL girls’ basketball action.

It was a balanced effort from the Rams, who struggled to score until the fourth quarter.

Layla Botts led them with 11 points, mostly from the free throw line, where she was 7-for-11.

Chloe Bennett netted nine points, with Elana Jennings and Rachel Wilson getting eight points each. Treanna Nickeson chipped in with two points.

Addison Farrer had 11 points to lead the Tigers.

NPM jumped out early, taking an 11-5 lead after the first horn. Botts had all of the Rams’ points in the first quarter.

Wyalusing’s defense settled in during the second, holding NPM to just four points as they cut the deficit to 15-13 at the half. Wilson led Wyalusing in the second with four points.

The two teams remained tight in the third as field goals were tough to come by - both teams had just one in the frame.

Botts went 4-for-6 from the free throw line to lead the Rams, while Farrer had five points for NPM, pushing their lead to 23-19.

Wyalusing found the range in the fourth, hitting four 3-balls as a team - two by Bennett and two by Jennings. They erupted for 17 points, and rallied to tie the game at 36-all.

In the extra period, though, they had just two points - a pair of free throws from Wilson - while NPM was able to get a couple buckets to pull out the win.

The Rams were just 10-for-23 from the free throw line, while NPM went 17-for-29.

Wyalusing (5-8) will host NEB on Friday.
