NTL WRESTLING: TOWANDA AND WYALUSING TO UNVEIL THE BRANISH/SCHNURE MEMORIAL AWARD THIS SATURDAY (2023-01-20)

Two area legendary wrestling coaches passed away last year, and the schools that they coached for will be doing something to remember them by.

After the Standing Stone rivalry wrestling match between Towanda and Wyalusing on Saturday the two teams will also be handing out the Branish/Schnure Memorial Award, which will be given to the top wrestler of the match from each team, as decided by their coaching staffs.

Ed Branish started the Towanda wrestling program, while Karl Schnure took over Wyalusing’s program in their fifth year, with both coaches putting them on the map in the league, district, and state.

“It’s going to be a perpetual award that we’re going to give out every year,” said Towanda coach Bill Sexton. “There will be a permanent plaque in each of our lobbies. Basically, remembering two men that were giants in our program.”
