NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: LATE TROY RALLY COMES UP SHORT AGAINST NPL (2023-01-20)

Northern Tier Sports Report
TROY — Troy didn’t survive a hot shooting night from NP-Liberty as they fell 54-48 to the Mounties during NTL girls’ basketball action Friday.

NPL out scored Troy 32-21 in the first half. The Trojans rallied in the second half, out scoring NPL 27-22, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit.

Katie Lackey had 11 points and three steals for Troy with Alyssa Parks getting 10 points. Kailyn Sterling added nine points to go with two steals, as MaKenna Matthews finished with six points.

Rachel Kingsley had three points, 14 boards, and two steals, with Gloria Andrew coming off the bench for seven points and three steals. Kendall Allen chipped in with two points.

Jaclyn Nelson led the Mounties with 20 points, while Elizabeth Ritchie grabbed her 500th career rebound during the contest.

She gave them a big boost in the first quarter with nine point effort that propelled them to a 15-13 lead at the break. Sterling led Troy with five points.

The second quarter is where NPL got some distance, out scoring Troy 17-8 as six different players scored. Troy had just two field goals in the quarter, with Parks netting four to lead them.

Andrew gave Troy a spark in the third as they rallied to cut it to 42-34. She had four points, with Lackey also netting four.

In the fourth the Trojans had three 3-balls in their rally as six different players scored. However, the Mounties did enough from the charity stripe - 8-for-12 - to make up for just hitting two field goals.

Troy falls to 9-5 on the year and will travel to Wyalusing on Monday.
