Northern Tier Sports Report
CANTON — A slow start doomed Canton in their 54-29 loss to NP-Mansfield during NTL boys’ basketball action Friday.

The Warriors had just nine points at the half as NPM built a 23-point lead at the break.

Kyle Kapichok led Canton with nine points on 4-for-6 shooting to go with five boards, while Ben Fitch had eight points and four assists.

Weston Bellows scored five points, plus six boards, and two steals, as Hunter Brackman and Austin Allen had three points apiece. Allen also had two steals.

Talin Williams finished with one point and three blocks.

Sam Lawrence had 12 points to lead the Tigers.

Five different NPM players scored in the first quarter to give them their 13-5 lead. Brackman led Canton with a 3-pointer.

In the second Bellows and Fitch had the two Warrior buckets as Karson Dominick netted six of his 10 points for the Tigers during the frame to put them up 31-9.

Canton’s defense dug in during the third, holding NPM to just nine points, but they had just seven themselves with Bellows and Fitch each hitting a 3-ball.

In the final frame Kapichok scored all of his nine points to lead the Warriors to their best quarter yet - 13 points - but it wasn’t enough as four different NPM players scored to secure the win.

Canton (6-7) travels to Athens next Tuesday.
