ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: TOWANDA'S SLUYTER, NEB'S KOLESAR POST STRONG WEEKS (2023-01-22)

Another week and another slate of strong performances in the area.

The top girls’ athlete this week comes on the mat as NEB’s Anaiah Kolesar took third at the Coal Cracker Girls’ Wrestling Invitational for Athens this past weekend. Wrestling 109-115 she went 3-1 with her three wins a fall and two major decisions, good enough to make her the Female Athlete of the Week.

Towanda’s Rylee Sluyter had one of his best weeks as a wrestler. On Tuesday he eked out a 1-point win over Canton’s Holden Ward, then on Saturday Sluyter got the deciding fall in the Knights’ win over their rivals, Wyalusing, to keep the Standing Stone Trophy. He was named the inaugural Branish/Schnure Memorial Award recipient for his win, making him the Male Athlete of the Week.
