ON TAP TODAY: A MIX OF BOYS' HOOPS AND WRESTLING (2023-01-24)

Northern Tier Sports Report
A mix of wrestling and boys’ hoops for today as its final slate of cross-over NTL games - not including make ups.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Williamson (2-11) at Troy (10-5), 6 p.m.: The Trojans can clinch a district playoff spot with a win today. They’re coming off a big win over Wyalusing, while the Warriors haven’t won since the first week of December. The game is starting at 6 p.m. with varsity only.

Canton (6-7) at Athens (10-5), 7:15 p.m.: The final game in a 3-contest gauntlet for Canton. The Warriors lost to Wellsboro and NP-Mansfield last week as they battle for both the NTL Division-II title and a district playoff spot. Athens just needs a win to clinch their trip to the postseason.

Sayre (6-9) at Wyalusing (3-11), 7:15 p.m.: The Rams have a 3-game home stretch this week as they look to put some wins together. Sayre needs this game to keep pace with NPL and NEB in the Small School standings. Wyalusing’s Blake Morningstar will be honored for getting his 500th rebound before the game.

WRESTLING

Athens (3-3) at Towanda (12-5), 7 p.m.: The start of a busy week for the Knights as they have three dual meets in a row and then head down to the West Branch Tournament. The Wildcats likely need this win to make district duals.

Canton (11-1) at Montoursville (15-3), 7 p.m.: A possible district duals semifinal or final as both teams went 4-1 at the Clearfield Duals this past weekend.

Wyalusing (7-5) at Williamson (5-6), with NP-Liberty (7-5), 6 p.m.: Wrestling starts at 6 p.m. for the Rams, who will face both teams back to back. Williamson is wrestling for the district duals lives, while NPL and Wyalusing appear to firmly have their spots in the postseason.

NEB (1-13) at Wellsboro (2-7), 7 p.m.: The Panthers will look to finish their NTL season strong with back to back wins, after beating Sayre over the weekend.
