Northern Tier Sports Report
TIOGA JUNCTION — Towanda held off a scrappy Williamson team, 51-43, during NTL Division-I girls’ basketball action Friday.

The Knights jumped out to an early 12-6 lead, and, while they led the whole way, they were never able to pull away.

Paige Manchester had 22 points, three assists, and four steals in the win for the Knights, while Brynn Woodruff had a double-double of 10 points and 10 boards.

Gracie Schoonover finished with nine points, 12 boards, three assists, and two steals, as Bella Hurley added five points, and five boards.

Aziza Ismailova netted three points, while Eliza Fowler finished with two points and two steals.

Taylor Rae Jones led Williamson with 19 points.

Schoonover led the early charge for Towanda with four first quarter points, while the Knights held Williamson to just one field goal.

In the second both offenses picked up, with Towanda netting 15 points behind seven from Manchester and six out of Woodruff. Jones netted seven points herself to help the Warriors keep pace but they found themselves down 27-17 at the half.

In the third Manchester went off for 10 of her team’s 12 points, including two 3-balls, as Towanda extended their lead to 39-27.

Jones rallied Williamson in the fourth with seven points, but five different Knights scored to keep them ahead.

The win clinches a district playoff spot for Towanda (11-3) as they host Berwick Saturday with a 2:30 p.m. start.
