NTL WRESTLING: CANTON'S DAVIS IS RUNNER-UP AT ULTIMATE WARRIOR (2023-01-28)

WEST BRANCH — Canton’s Michael Davis took second at the Ultimate Warrior Tournament on Saturday, as five different Warriors medaled.

Hayden Ward (139) and Hudson Ward (145) both took fourth, Riley Parker (189) came in sixth, and Cohen Landis (121) finished eighth.


Davis won a 5-0 decision in the semifinals, but lost by fall in 4:39 to Armstrong’s Connor Jacobs.


Hayden lost his semifinal bout 10-4, but then turned around to beat Towanda’s Riley Vanderpool in the consolation semifinals. He then lost 6-1 to Hickory’s Connor Saylor in the third place match.


Hudson lost his semifinal 5-3, but then turned around and won 3-1 in the consolation semifinals. He then fell 4-2 to Southern Columbia’s Mason Barvitskie 4-2 in the bronze medal match.


Parker lost his semifinal bout by fall, then medical forfeited the next two matches.


Landis won 8-6 Saturday morning in the blood round, but then lost 1-0 in the consolation quarters. In the seventh place match he fell 11-0 to Sullivan County’s Rocky Finnegan.


Brenen Taylor (160), Holden Ward (133), and Lyle Vermilya (107) all lost in their opening round matches Saturday morning. 


Holden and Taylor both went 3-2, as Vermilya went 2-2 during the tournament.
