CARPENTER LEADS SULLIVAN COUNTY TO ROAD WIN OVER LOURDES (2023-01-28)

SHAMOKIN — Sullivan County rallied from a fourth quarter deficit to top Lourdes, 43-41, during non-league boys’ basketball action Saturday.

The Griffins entered the fourth quarter down 34–31, but held Lourdes to a game low seven points in the final frame to pull ahead.

Ben Carpenter had 18 points to lead Sullivan, as Riley King netted 11. Maddox Bahr added six, Landon Baldwin scored four, with Derrick Finnegan and Trey Higley getting two points apiece.

Lourdes led 14-12 after the first quarter as Carpenter had five to lead the Griffins. Sullivan would take a 25-24 lead at the half behind an eight point frame from Carpenter.

Lourdes would hold the Griffins to just six points in the third quarter to go up by three entering the fourth. In the final frame Bahr and King both nailed 3-balls - with King getting a team high five points in the fourth - to help them top Lourdes. 

Sullivan’s defense held Lourdes to just two field goals in the final eight minutes.

The win clinches a district spot for the Griffins (11-7), who will host Millville on Tuesday.
