COLLEGE: NEB GRAD NEUBER HOOPING IT UP FOR DELAWARE VALLEY (2023-02-20)
BY CHRIS MANNINGNorthern Tier Sports ReportWhile on Saturday the NEB girls’ basketball team was making history, a former player has been making noise in the college ranks all season long. Panther graduate Maisie Neuber has been lighting it up on the court at Delaware Valley this year.
“The season so far is going pretty good,” Neuber said. “We had a really good run towards the middle of the season.”
DelVal went 12-14 on the year, and 8-8 in the conference. On the year Neuber averaged 10.2 points per game and 7.2 rebounds per game as the freshman has stepped into a starting role for the Aggies.
“It feels amazing to be a starter as a freshman,” she said. “We have a really small team, but that creates a lot of opportunities for everyone on our team. I feel like I have been able to show what I’m capable of.”
Neuber has four double-doubles on the year, the most recent coming on Monday in a playoff loss to Arcadia, with 12 points and 10 boards. She has a high of 24 points against FDU-Florham, and 13 rebounds in a game back in November.
“It feels amazing to perform at this level and end a game with stats like that,” said Neuber. “I’ve had a couple double-doubles this season, but (the 24 point game) made me realize what I am capable of. My teammates and coaches were also really excited for me, so having that support meant a lot to me, too.”
It wasn’t always easy for Neuber to go from a Panther to an Aggie.
“The biggest difference for me was getting used to how everyone around me played,” she explained. “In high school, you play with the same core group of girls for years. In college, there is constantly people leaving and coming onto the team, so that has been a big adjustment for me.”
Still, she’s felt the love from her Panther family, including a game where her former team came down to see her play.
“My favorite game so far was our game against Misericordia at Misericordia,” Neuber remarked. “I had a lot of hometown support at that game, and my team was able to pull out a win. The energy was incredible, and it was a really good win for our team.”
Going forward Neuber’s biggest goal is to be the best teammate that she can be.
“Each year we are basically going to have a new team, so I think it’s important to understand how everyone plays and reacts in order to make myself, and my team, better going forward.”
