NTL SOFTBALL: FORMER STAR HOLBERT TAKES THE REIGNS FOR NEB (2023-03-15)

ROME — The NEB softball team will be turning over a new page this year as they welcome former star, MaKaylah Holbert, back as head coach.

“It feels great,” said Holbert. “I was coaching at Mifflin County for three years, then I was at Montrose for two years, so I’ve been trying to get back here. Then I got a teaching job here, so now I’m able to coach and be back with some of the coaches I had when I was here.”

One of those is Stan Siberski, who was an assistant coach when Holbert was at NEB.

“It’s awesome with Stan,” remarked Holbert. “He watched me come play in college, he was my soccer coach, and he was my softball coach, so it’s great to be out in the field with him.”

They have a young roster with just one senior, but many of the girls play travel ball.

“It’s a little tricky, we have a lot of rebuilding to do,” Holbert explained. “The majority of the girls are 10th graders. It’s definitely going to take some time, but we’re having a lot of fun, and the girls are really enjoying themselves.”
