COLLEGE: SEVERAL AREA LOCALS STANDING OUT IN SPRING SPORTS AT THE NEXT LEVEL (2023-04-01)

Northern Tier Sports Report
Spring sports are not only in full swing at the high school level, but also at the collegiate level, as well. Here are some area locals making a splash at the next level.

SOFTBALL

There are three local players at Lock Haven with  Troy sisters Riley and Hunter McClellan, and Wyalusing’s Hailey Jayne.


Riley is hitting .372 with 28 runs scored, 21-RBI, seven doubles, and four home runs. She also has a fielding percentage of .964.


Hunter has seen time as a pinch runner, scoring seven runs on the year. Jayne recently had surgery and is currently out.


Towanda grad Maddie Maynard has been doing well in her freshman year at Penn State-Altoona.


She’s hitting .243 on the year with a .486 slugging percentage. Maynard has scored seven runs with four doubles, 5-RBI, and even a home run.


In the circle Maynard has pitched 1 2/3-innings with two strikeouts.


Fellow Towanda graduate Jocelyn Bennett has seen sporadic action at Penn State-Harrisburg, going 2-for-4 so far this year with a run scored, and an RBI.


NEB graduate Emily Susanj is hitting .333 for Misericordia in limited appearances, with one double, one run scored, and 5-RBI.


Troy graduate Lindsay Steele has pitched 28 2/3-innings for Pitt-Bradford, striking out 17 on the year.


Fellow Trojan Arian Wilcox is hitting .206 for Elmira College so far this season, with 2-RBI.


BASEBALL

NEB graduate Ian Wilbur has seen two-thirds of an inning of action on the mound for Mansfield University this year.


Troy graduate Evan Short has pitched 1 2/3-innings for Corning Community College this year.


TRACK & FIELD

Wyalusing graduate Grady Cobb took 11th at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge for Slippery Rock with a leap of 1.73 meters.


Cobb then won the Shamrock Invitational B flight high jump with a mark of 1.78 meters (5-feet, 10-inches).


Cobb recently took seventh at the Dave Labor Invitational with a jump of 1.78 meters.
