NTL SOFTBALL: OVERPECK'S 2-RUN HOMER LEADS TOWANDA PAST ATHENS (2023-05-02)

WYSOX — Towanda broke their 3-game skid with a 3-2 win over Athens during NTL softball action Tuesday.

The Knights used three runs in the bottom of the third to pull ahead, and then held the Wildcats in check the rest of the way.


Brea Overpeck (1-for-3) had a 2-run home run while Kynlee Kunkle (2-for-3) had a triple on the day.


Aleah Johnson (1-for-3) had a run scored with an RBI, while TaeLynn Brabant (1-for-2) scored a run. Brooklyn Evans (1-for-3) also had a hit.


Shay Greenland and Johnson combined to throw a 3-hitter. Greenland went four innings to get the win, striking out five with two hits, one walk, and two unearned runs.


Johnson pitched the final three innings, striking out six with two walks, and one hit.


Athens would a run each in the second and third innings to go up 2-0.


In the bottom of the third Brabant got things started with a 1-out single.


After another out Johnson singled in Brabant to make it 2-1. Then, on a 1-0 count, Overpeck put the next pitch into the batting cages past left field for the 3-2 lead.


Athens would threaten over the next three innings but in the fifth, with a runner on third, Johnson got a strikeout to end the threat. 


Johnson got another strikeout in the sixth to end another potential Athens rally.


In the seventh Athens had a 1-out hit but Caedence Wells caught her stealing, followed by Johnson inducing the fly-out to end the game.


Towanda (6-6) will travel to Wyalusing on Friday.
