NTL BASEBALL: WYALUSING TOPS TOWANDA (2023-05-06)
Northern Tier Sports ReportWYALUSING — Wyalusing pushed a run across in every inning as they defeated Towanda 10-2 in NTL baseball action Friday.
The Rams scored two runs in the first, second, fourth, and fifth innings, then had one run in the third and sixth. The Knights had a brief lead with a run in the first, and then added a run in the fifth.
Nick Vanderpool Jr. (3-for-4) had a double, with 3-RBI, and two runs scored, while Hunter House (2-for-3) knocked in a run.
Blake Morningstar (2-for-4) had a multi-hit game as Trehnon Hugo (1-for-2) had a double with three runs, and an RBI.
Parker Petlock (1-for-2) scored a run and drove one in, as CJ Carr (1-for-4) and Casey God also crossed home. Kenny Maps (1-for-4) had an RBI, with Robert English (1-for-4) getting a hit, as well.
House went the distance for the win, striking out seven with five hits, one walk, and two runs, one of which was earned.
Jack Wheaton (1-for-4) had a double with a run scored for Towanda as Teagan Irish (1-for-2) also crossed home. Alex Bowman (1-for-4) drove in a run, while Jack Tavani (1-for-3) also had a hit.
Tavani went the first three innings for the loss, striking out one with five hits, no walks, and five runs, two of which were earned.
Wheaton pitcher two innings with three walks, three hits, and four runs, three of which were earned.
Giovanni Assante Di Cupillo went the final inning on the mound, striking out one with two hits, and on unearned run.
In the top of the first Towanda pushed one across with two outs as Irish singled, then scored on an error off the bat of Bowman for the 1-0 lead.
It didn’t last long as Wyalusing got two runs in the bottom half, with Hugo reaching on an error to lead things off. He would score on a Vanderpool double, who scored two batters later on a House ground out for the 2-1 lead.
The Rams got two more runs in the second, this time with two outs, as Hugo led off with a double. He scored on a Vanderpool single, who then took home on a Mapes hit for the 4-1 lead.
Wyalusing got another run in the third as Carr led off by reaching on an error. Petlock then brought him home on a sacrifice fly to make it 5-1.
The Rams made it 7-1 in the fourth as Hugo had a lead-off walk. After two outs Hugo would steal home, followed by House drawing a walk.
Morningstar would single to move Aiden Shaw, House’s courtesy runner, over to third, where he stole home on a wild pitch at the next at bat.
In the top of the fifth Wheaton hit a 2-out double. Two batters later he scored on an Irish fielder’s choice to cut it to 7-2.
Wyalusing answered with two runs in the fifth as English led off by reaching on an error. He would get caught stealing, but Petlock singled to get the rally going again.
That was followed by a walk to God, setting up Hugo’s sacrifice fly that brought in Petlock. God then crossed home on a Vanderpool hit for the 9-2 lead.
In the sixth House led off with a hit, then his courtesy runner scored two batters later on a wild pitch.
Wyalusing (12-3) will host Mifflinburg Saturday at 11 a.m. while Towanda (3-10) will travel to NP-Mansfield Monday.
