NTL BASEBALL: WYALUSING FALLS IN TIGHT ONE TO CENTRAL COLUMBIA (2023-05-17)

BLOOMSBURG — Central Columbia broke a 1-1 tie with runs in the fifth and sixth innings to pull out the 3-1 win over Wyalusing during non-league baseball action Wednesday.

The Blue Jays took a 1-0 lead in the second, with the Rams tying it up in the fourth.


Kenny Mapes (2-for-3) led Wyalusing at the plate, while Trehnon Hugo (1-for-3) had a double. Hunter House (1-for-3) scored a run, as CJ Carr (1-for-3) knocked in a run.


Isaac Shaffer (1-for-2) also had a hit.


Hugo went the distance in the loss, striking out two with six hits, one walk, and three earned runs.


Wyalusing would threaten in the second, use a pair of errors to get a runner on second, but he was stranded there.


Shaffer reached had a 1-out hit in the third and reached second, but was also stranded.


In the top of the fourth the Rams strung a few singles together to get their run. Mapes and House led off with back to back hits.


A fielder’s choice off the bat of Morningstar saw Mapes get thrown out at third. 


Carr, though, came up with the big hit, driving in House with a single.


The Blue Jays, though, got a double play to end the threat.


Hugo would hit a 2-out double in the fifth, but was stranded there. Mapes led off the sixth with a single, but Central turned another double play to snuff that out.


Wyalusing will host Southern Columbia on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the district quarterfinals.
