NTL SOFTBALL: TROY TOPS CANTON IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE FOR BOTH TEAMS (2023-05-19)

Northern Tier Sports Report
CANTON — Troy used 17 hits to top Canton, 11-5, during non-league softball action Friday.

The Trojans scored in five of the seven innings, though the Warriors took advantage of a few Troy defensive miscues to keep it close early on.

Olivia Champluvier (3-for-4) had a home run, a double, 3-RBI, and a run scored, while Tyra Williams (3-for-4) had a home run, three runs, and an RBI.

Lauren Ridall (2-for-4) had a double with a run scored, and an RBI, as Caitlyn Knapp (2-for-3) had 3-RBI, with a run scored.

Marlee Stanton (2-for-5) scored a run, and drove one in, as Kali Ayres (1-for-4) had a triple with a run scored.

Rachel Kingsley (2-for-3) knocked in a run, as. Amber James (1-for-3) scored twice. Madi Palmer (1-for-4) had a hit with Abby Wrisley scoring a run.

Ridall started, and went 5 1/3-innings for the win, striking out three with four walks, two hits, and four runs. Champluvier pitched the final 1 2/3-innings with two hits and one run.

Mae Kinner (2-for-4) had a double with a run scored, and an RBI to lead Canton, as Madison Hulbert (2-for-3) scored twice. Addie Pepper scored a run, and drove one in, with Chelsea Lehman also scoring.

Tara Gilbert took the loss, striking out five with 17 hits, one walk, and 11 runs.

Knapp put Troy up 2-0 in the second with a 2-out, 2-run single. The Trojans rallied for four more runs in the third to go up 6-0.

Canton would cut it to 6-3 with a run in the third, and two more in the bottom of the fourth.

However, back to back home runs from Champluvier and Williams to start the fifth saw the Trojans regain the momentum. They would out score Canton 3-2 the rest of the way.

Both teams will now wait to see who they’ll play in districts. Canton will likely be the second seed in the Class A bracket, while Troy will see if their win pushes them past NEB for the fifth seed in Class AA, or if they stay in the sixth spot.
