NTL WRESTLING: TOWANDA BACK IN THE MAT ROOM (2021-01-06)
BY CHRIS MANNINGNorthern Tier Sports ReportTOWANDA — In all of his years of coaching Towanda wrestling coach Bill Sexton has never seen a year like this one.
“The uncertainty,†said Sexton. “And, granted, sport is just a small amount of what’s going on in the world around us in this pandemic, but it’s definitely a different season than anybody has ever experienced.â€
This is technically the second week of practice for Towanda, but they only a few practices until their first match against NEB next Tuesday.
“I wish we had more time, I wish we had a normal season,†said Sexton. “But we don’t. And, everybody else is going through the same thing, we all have the same amount of time to get ready, and we’ll all do it. Those of us who do it better than others will probably benefit from it quickly.â€
Like a lot of programs, Towanda’s numbers are a little down this year, but they should factor into the NTL race, led by their three seniors of Evan Johnson, Clay Watkins and Alex Perez.
Right now, though, they’re just taking it one day at a time.
“I’m just happy to have a season of any kind,†said Sexton.
