LITTLE LEAGUE: TROY MINORS SOFTBALL ALL-STARS TOP TOWANDA, CLAIM DISTRICT TITLE (2023-07-09)
Northern Tier Sports ReportWYSOX — Troy Minors All-star claimed their first District 15 title since 2018, beating Towanda 6-2 in the title game on Sunday.
Troy went 6-0 through pool and district play, and will begin Sectional play at NEBall on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Towanda came through the elimination bracket to finish second in the district.
Troy scored a run in the first, and then added another in the third to go up 2-0. They tacked on three more in the four for a 5-0 lead, then scored their final run in the fifth.
Towanda rallied in the sixth with two runs, but couldn’t get that any more.
Blaklee Brown went 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored to lead Troy, while striking out 15 in the circle as she tossed a 2-hitter.
Mya McClure went 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Blair Teribury (1-for-3), Lydia Blasz (1-for-2), and Marley Palmer (1-for-3) also had hits. Blasz, Palmer, and Madelyn Phillips also scored.
Nina Gallagher (1-for-3) had a double for Towanda as Emma Bride (1-for-2) also had a hit. Bristol Edsell and Gracie Hogan both scored.
Rhyann Kithcart struck out eight for Towanda.
