ON TAP TODAY: WYALUSING-TROY GIRLS' SOCCER HIGHLIGHTS A BUSY TUESDAY (2023-09-26)

Northern Tier Sports Report
A little bit of everything for this Tuesday, highlighted by a big girls’ soccer match-up as Wyalusing travels to Troy.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Wyalusing (9-2) at Troy (7-2-1), 4 p.m.: There are four teams left in the running for the NTL title, and two of them will meet on Tuesday. The Rams’ lone league loss this year was a 1-0 affair to Troy at home, while the Trojans’ only league blemish is a tie with Williamson.

NEB (2-4) at Athens (4-4), 5:30 p.m.: The Panthers will be looking to break their 4-game losing streak as they head to the valley. The Wildcats have lost three of their last four, but only sport one league loss.

Williamson (5-2-1) at Towanda (4-6), 6 p.m.: The Warriors are, decidedly, on the outside looking in when it comes to chasing a league title, with two league losses and a tie, but are still alive. Towanda will be looking to avenge their 4-0 loss to the Warriors earlier this season.

VOLLEYBALL

Athens (3-4) at Troy (5-4), 7 p.m.: The Trojans broke a 3-match losing streak with a win over Canton on Saturday. The Wildcats broke a losing streak of their own with a win over Danville. This is the first of two meetings between the teams.

Canton (3-6) at NEB (8-0), 7 p.m.: This will be NEB’s first match in a week as they look to tighten their grip on the NTL Small School Division with a win over the defending champions. The Warriors are on a 3-match losing streak.

Williamson (6-3) at Towanda (5-5), 7 p.m.: A tough match-up for the Knights, as Williamson is riding a 4-match win streak coming in.

Wyalusing (3-6) at NP-Liberty (6-1), 7 p.m.: The Rams are riding a 3-match win streak as they head out west to take on the defending district champions. NPL has won their last three matches in straight sets.

CROSS-COUNTRY

CV, Towanda at Athens, 4:30 p.m.: A key large school match-up for both boys and girls. Individually, the boys’ race between CV senior Kristian Mizdail and Athens freshman Graham Wanck is likely the biggest highlight.

NEB, Troy at NPM, 4:30 p.m.: The match-up between the unbeaten Troy and NEB boys’ teams may be the highlight as the Lady Panthers look to stay undefeatead, as well.

Sayre, Wellsboro at Canton, 4:30 p.m.: The Canton boys have a solid chance to pick up two more wins as they host their second meet of the season.

Sullivan County at Wyalusing, 4:30 p.m.: The Rams will play host to an improving Griffins squad in a small school showdown.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Montgomery (4-5) at Towanda (6-6): The make-up date for Towanda’s rained out double-header this past Saturday. The Knights likely need to win both in order to qualify for team districts.
