NTL WRESTLING: WYALUSING PULLS AWAY FROM TUNKHANNOCK FOR SEASON OPENING WIN (2021-01-14)

TUNKHANNOCK — Wyalusing pulled away from Tunkhannock 48-20, winning the final four weights of the match, in non-league wrestling action Thursday.

They used five falls, two in the first two weights and three in the final three, to rack up 30 points. Tunkhannock also forfeited three weights to the Rams.

In the first two matches Wyalusing’s Nicholas Woodruff (152) pinned Matt Rosentel in 5:30, while at 160 Jacob Bruyn pinned Ben Cannella in 31 seconds.

Down 12-0 Tunkhannock got on the scoreboard as Luke Carpenter scored a 10-4 decision over Jordan Lamb. 

Wyalusing’s Alex Hunsinger made it 18-3 with a forfeit at 189.

The Tigers took the next two weights, both falls, to cut it to 18-15. At 215 Frank Scranta pinned Zachary Shaffer in 52 seconds, while at 285, Nick Marabell pinned Dereck Baldwin in 19 seconds.

Wyalusing’s Clayton Carr (106) by forfeit to push their lead to 24-15.

After a double forfeit at 113 Tunkhannock’s Owen Woods (120) pinned Darevin Curlee in 1:26 to once again eat into the Ram lead, 24-21.

Wyalusing, though, won the next four bouts, beginning with a Hunter Manahan (126) forfeit.

Then Owen Hadlock (132), Cade McMicken (138) and Skyler Manahan (145) all had falls. Hadlock pinned Collyn Cook in 30 seconds, McMicken pinned Stauffer in 5:48 and Skyler pinned Patrick Munley in 4:52.

The Rams jump into their NTL season next Tuesday as they host Athens.
