NTL GOLF: WYALUSING'S HOUSE, KUSMIERZ QUALIFY FOR DISTRICTS (2023-09-27)

Northern Tier Sports Report
MONTGOMERY — Wyalusing will have three golfers at the District IV Individual Championships next week, with Hunter House and Kaeden Kusmierz qualifying at the District IV qualifying and Team Championships Wednesday.

Both shot under 88 to make the cut, helping the Rams to a fifth place finish in the Class AA team standings.

Wyalusing finished with 353 strokes behind champions Warrior Run (327), along with Midd-West (331), Mifflinburg (338), and Shamokin (347).

Hunter House carded an 84 to lead the Rams, while Kusmierz shot an 87. Nick Salsman, who’s already going to districts because his average is below 88, shot 90, Connor Smith shot 92, and Matt Spencer carded a 104.

Competing as an individual Ashton VanDeMark just missed the cut with a 91.

House had two birdies on the day - one on the par-5 15th hole, and one on the par-3 17th hole.

Starting on the fifth hole he went bogey, double bogey in his firs two. A snowman on the ninth hole, followed by a double bogey on the 11th, and a bogey on the 12th saw him fall to 10-over.

That’s when he turned things around with a par on the 13th, then his birdie. He would get a bogey and double bogey, but righted the ship with another birdie on 17 to sit at 11-over.

He then got on a par roll, playing even for the next four holes, before bogeying his final hole, the fourth, to secure his spot in the individual tournament.

Kusmierz largely played bogey golf, and avoided the big numbers, to slip under the cut. He had 11 bogeys, five pars, and two double bogeys.

Starting on the sixth hole he opened with two bogeys and a double to sit at 4-over.

However, over the next five holes he shot 3-over, thanks to two pars. On the 14th-through-16th holes he went 4-over, but back to back pars on the 17th and 18th holes kept him alive.

Kusmierz bogeyed the first three holes of the front nine, then got a crucial par on the par-3 fourth hole.

That gave a little wiggle room on his final hole, a par-4, where he bogeyed to punch his ticket.

The District IV Individual Championships will be next Thursday and Saturday at Williamsport Country Club.
