NTL BOYS' SOCCER: NEB USES TWO FIRST HALF GOALS TO TOP TROY (2023-09-28)
Northern Tier Sports ReportEAST TROY — Northeast Bradford boys’ scored two first half goals, and made them stick, as they edged Troy 2-0 in NTL soccer action Wednesday.
The first goal came with 15:15 left to play in the first half as a Ben Ellis crossed found Brennin Thoman in the box to make it 1-0.
Then, with just over four minutes left in the half Cesar Alvarez hit a shot from outside the 18 that deflected off a Troy defended and snuck past the keeper.
NEB out shot Troy 7-5, and had a 9-4 edge in corner kicks. Trojan Keeper Tim Hornung made six saves in net, while NEB keeper Andrew Beers had five saves.
“We were a little off with intensity in the first 20 minutes but slowly got into a rhythm, and gained control of the game,” said NEB coach Scott Merritt. “We had a lot of fantastic attacks that ended just before the final approach, and a handful that were just not on frame with the final shot. But overall, we were in total control of possession, and moved the ball very well. Our back four did a very good job transitioning and shifting assignments as needed, and gave Andrew his second clean sheet of the season.”
