NTL FOOTBALL: CANTON WELCOMES WYALUSING FOR HOMECOMING (2023-09-29)
BY CHRIS MANNINGNorthern Tier Sports ReportCanton (5-0) rolls into homecoming undefeated as they held off a furious South Williamsport charge last week.
“South has a very good football team,” said Canton coach Tyler Sechrist. “Last week was a big win for our football team.”
Wyalusing (3-2) comes in after handing down a strong win over Montgomery, and is playing some of their best football in years.
“Coach Rogers has Wyalusing playing well,” said Sechrist. “They are physical and like to run the ball. We will need to play disciplined defense, and continue to tackle well against Wyalusing.”
The Warriors came out of that game last week a little banged up, so they’ll need a few players to step up tonight.
“We will need to continue to play fast, and involve all our athletes offensively,” Sechrist said.
KEYS TO THE GAME
Wyalusing - Ball control. Canton is a quick hitting team on offense, and the Rams’ offense is built for time eating drives. Tonight would be a good night for them to have a few of those.
Canton - Stop the run game. Wyalusing likes to chip away on offense, but if the Warriors can keep their run yards limited, they’ll get some stops. Listen for the coaches, and if they’re yelling ‘too much’ after Wyalusing run plays, then they need to tighten things up.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Dante Hatton, Wyalusing, OL - He may be one of the smallest linemen in the league, but he and the Rams will need to come up big this week if they’re going to compete with Canton. They’ll only go as far as their offensive line takes them.
Aydin Holcomb, Canton, WR - Look for Holcomb to start getting in more on the offense this week. He has both a rushing and receiving touchdown on the year, and a total of 180 yards between the two.
