NTL WRESTLING: CANTON GOES UNDEFEATED IN QUAD MEET (2021-01-16)

CANTON — The Warriors went 3-0 on Saturday as they hosted a quad wrestling meet with Bloomsburg, South Williamsport and Sayre.

They beat Bloomsburg 66-8, South Williamsport 51-18 and Sayre 78-0.


Against the Panthers Canton won the first nine matches to take a 54-0 lead.


Cohen Landis (106) led things off with a fall in 1:56 over Raif Trivelpiece followed by teammates Isaac Landis (113) and Miah Lehman (120) scoring forfeits.


At 126 Brayden Wesneski pinned Ashton Horan in 3:24 to make it 24-0.


Hudson Ward (132) scored a forfeit, followed by Bailey Ferguson pinning Dave Klingerman in 2:34 at 138.


Hayden Ward (145) and Michael Davis (152) both followed with forfeit. Riley Parker (160) finished off the run with a fall over Nick Wharton in 1:25.


Bloomsburg’s Stephen Roeder (172) pinned Brenen Taylor in 2:44 to get the Panthers on the scoreboard.


At 189 Canton’s Derek Atherton-Ely pinned Aaron Wiliams in 48 seconds while at 215 Bloomsburg’s Brody Hock scored an 11-8 decision over Gage Pepper.


At heavy weight Canton’s Mason Harold won by fall over Luke Barnes in 3:31 for the 66-8 final. Bloomsburg was deducted one team point at 126.


It was back and forth early in their match against South, before Canton pulled away down the stretch.


At 106 Cohen Landis scored a forfeit to put the Warriors up 6-0.


South Williamsport won the next two matches, though, as Robert Gardner (113) earned a 14-2 major decision against Isaac Landis and Kayvon Shams won 10-1 over Lehman, giving South an 8-6 lead.


At 126 Sam Persun kept the Mountaineer train going with a fall over Wesneski in 5:49, extending the South lead to 14-6.


Hudson Ward (132) brought Canton back with a fall over Landon Gephart in 40 seconds to cut it to 14-12, then Bailey Ferguson (138) pinned Jacob Hostrander in 14 seconds as the Warriors retook the sad, 18-14.


Austin Allen (145) scored a forfeit to extend the lead to 24-14 Canton.


Hayden Ward (152) then earned a 5-2 decision over Landon Lorson followed by Parker (160) pinning Caleb Jackson in 15 seconds to make it 33-14 Warriors.


South’s Lane Lusk (172) earned a 15-3 major decision against BTaylor to cut it to 33-18 with three weights to go.


That’s as close as their rally got as Atherton-Ely pinned Ryan Casella in 40 seconds at 189 to extend the lead to 39-18.


Pepper (215) earned a forfeit with Harold pinning Jake Casella (5:15) at 285 for the 51-18 final.


There were only three contested bouts in their win over Sayre, as the other 10 were forfeits.


At 145 Hayden Ward pinned Sayre’s Bob Benjamin in 1:44, at 160 Parker pinned Kaden Bennett in 44 seconds and at 189 Atherton-Ely pinned Glen Romberger in 22 seconds.


The Warriors improve to 5-0 as they get ready to travel to Towanda (Tuesday) and Troy (Thursday) before partaking in the Athens Tournament on Saturday.
