NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: TROY PULLS OUT WIN OVER WILLIAMSON (2021-01-16)

Northern Tier Sports Report
TIOGA JUNCTION — Troy held on for their first win of the season, beating Williamson 27-20 in NTL girls’ basketball action Saturday.

They had two scorers in double figures as Hannah Zimmerman netted 11 points and Sydney Taylor scored 10. Rachel Kingsley chipped in with three points as Sarah Chamberlain had two points and Katie Lackey netted one.

Points were hard to come by as the two teams were tied at 6-all after the first quarter, Troy’s only field goal a 3-pointer by Zimmerman.

Things opened up in the second quarter as the Trojans out scored the Warriors 10-6 behind six points from Taylor, giving them a 16-12 halftime advantage.

Troy then put the clamps on Williamson, holding them to two points in the third quarter as they extended their lead to 22-14 after three quarters.

The Warriors rallied in the final frame scoring eight points on a game high three field goals. Troy didn’t have a field goal but did enough from the free throw line - 4-for-8 - in the quarter to hold off Williamson for the win.

Taylor Rae-Jones led the Warriors with nine points.

Troy will be in action next on Tuesday as they host defending NTL Large School champions Towanda with a 6 p.m. start.
