NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: BEERS HAS A DOUBLE-DOUBLE TO LEAD NEB PAST TOWANDA (2021-01-18)

TOWANDA — Northeast Bradford picked up their first win on the season but Towanda made them earn all of it during NTL boys’ basketball action Monday. 

The Panthers won 53-52 as they survived 19 points fourth quarter effort from the Knights. 

Nick Beers had 19 points, with 14 of them coming in the second half, to go with 21 rebounds for a double-double. He also had three steals and three assists.


Lucas Crown netted 15 points while adding seven boards and three assists. Dan Seeley scored 10 points and grabbed six boards as Sam Abell had six points and three assists, Ethan Finch notched two and Joe Stanton finished with one.


Seeing his first action of the season Dan Williams nabbed four rebounds.


Nate Parker went off for 25 points, including six 3-pointers, to lead Towanda, while Logan Lambert and Justin Schoonover had seven points apiece. Kolby Hoffman chipped in with five, Trent Kithcart had four with Dante Ottaviani and Teagan Irish both scoring two each.


It was a low scoring first quarter as NEB led just 8-6 after the first eight minutes. Things picked up in the second quarter as Crown got to the line, shooting 5-for-6, while Seeley pitched in with two buckets.


Parker helped Towanda keep in touch with two of his 3-pointers but it was the Panthers up 22-20 at the halfway point.


NEB found their offensive momentum in the third quarter as Beers had four buckets while Abell hit two 3-pointers to lead them to a 17 point effort. Parker responded with 11 points of his own, including three 3-pointers, but NEB out paced them 17-13 to take a 39-33 lead into the final stanza.


In the fourth five different Knights scored during their rally as Schoonover and Parker had five points each while Kithcart netted four.


However, Beers and Crown combined for 12 points to hold on for the win.


Towanda won the JV game 57-29.


Elias Schrawder led the Knights with 15 points while Cayden McPherson had 11 for the Panthers.


Towanda (1-1) hosts Troy on Wednesday while NEB (1-3) will travel to NP-Liberty Wednesday.
