NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: TOWANDA USES BIG FIRST HALF TO DOWN TROY (2021-01-19)

TROY — Towanda stayed unbeaten in NTL Division-I girls’ basketball action Tuesday, beating Troy 41-21 behind a strong first half.

Porschia Bennett led Towanda with 13 points, four boards, three steals and two assists while Paige Manchester had 10 points, six assists, four boards and three steals.


Erin Barrett finished with six points, six boards and two blocks as Ally Hurley chipped in with five points. Amanda Horton had three with Bella Hurley and Kenadie Packard both scoring two. 


Gracie Schoonover grabbed nine rebounds for Towanda.


Sydney Taylor had nine points to lead Troy while MaKenna Matthews finished with five points. Hannah Zimmerman had three points with Rachel Kingsley and Katie Lackey netting two points apiece.


Manchester and Bennett combined for 10 points to help Towanda jump out to a 15-4 first quarter lead.  Bennett added six more points in the second quarter to push the lead to 27-6 at the half.


Troy’s defense stiffened in the second half, holding Towanda to 14 points over third and fourth quarter, as Troy out scored 15-14. Taylor had seven of her nine points in the second half while Matthews had all five of her points in the final frame.


Towanda (4-0) is next at Cowanesque Valley on Thursday while Troy (1-3) takes a much shorter trip to Canton, both with 6 p.m. start.
