NEW PIAA CLASSIFICATIONS FOR AREA BOYS' SPORTS (2023-11-28)

Northern Tier Sports Report
The PIAA released their classifications for the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 sports seasons, and there’s quite a few shake-ups on the boys’ side.

For one Athens will be competing up in wrestling (Class 3A), football (Class 4A), and boys’ basketball (Class 5A). Another is there will be 22 teams in the District IV, Class AA cross-country race, making an already deep field even tougher.

In track and field Lewisburg is back down to Class AA after two years up, once again, making it tougher for athletes, particularly on the track, to get to Shippensburg.

Football alone has a few wrinkles with Mt. Carmel moving up to Class 3A, while South Williamsport and Loyalsock move into Class 2A.

-The PIAA changed the way they counted students this year, fully counting charter and vo-tech students in each school district.

- The number next to the team is what is being counted by the PIAA. It will change depending on if a school co-ops in that sport, but not others.
