NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: KITCHEN HITS FIVE 3-POINTERS BUT CANTON FALLS TO NPL (2023-12-02)
Northern Tier Sports ReportLIBERTY — Canton dropped a hard fought game to NP-Liberty, 39-31, during the opening round of NPL’s girls’ basketball tournament Friday.
After taking a first quarter lead they were held to two points in the second quarter, and never quite recovered.
Kendall Kitchen led Canton with a 16 point effort, which included five 3-balls, while Cailyn VanNoy netted seven points.
Daveian Crowley scored four with Danah Wesneski and Lydia Roupp each finishing with two points.
The Warriors led 12-10 after the first quarter as Kitchen went off for 10 points, hitting three 3-pointers.
However, they scored just two points in the second as NPL took a 16-14 lead at the half.
Canton out found their offense again in the third quarter, with Kitchen hitting two 3-pointers, but so did the Mounties, as Kaylee Graham scored nine of her 16 in the frame to keep the Mounties up 29-24.
In the fourth NPL out score Canton 10-7 to secure the win.
The Mounties had a 15-3 edge in free throws, going 14-for-15 from the line, which proved to be the difference.
Canton will face Addison in the consolation game on Saturday.
Canton JV came out on top, 17-13, over NPL, and will play in the title game Saturday.
