NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: WYALUSING HOLDS ON LATE TO DOWN SUSQUEHANNA (2023-12-02)
Northern Tier Sports ReportNEW MILFORD — Wyalusing jumped out early and held on late to edge Susquehanna, 36-32, during the final day of the Susquehanna-Bradford County Challenge in girls’ basketball action Saturday.
The Rams jumped out to a 16-7 first quarter lead, and led by as many as 11, only to see the Sabres cut it to 1-point in the fourth.
However, Wyalusing made enough freebies, going 4-for-8, to pull out the win.
Chloe Bennett had 10 points to lead the Rams, as Treanna Nickeson netted nine to go with five boards.
Alysha Botts had eight points and two steals, as Rachel Wilson finished with four points, five boards, and two steals.
Yulonda Torres notched three points and grabbed four rebounds, while Emily Fowler chipped in with two points.
Bennett was hot to start the game, scoring eight of her 10 in the first frame as five different Rams found the bottom of the net.
Things cooled off in the second as they scored just four points, with the Sabres cutting it to 20-15 at the half.
Botts got going in the third for Wyalusing, netting seven of her eight points as the Rams extended their lead to 30-22 going into the fourth.
Nickeson had Wyalusing’s only field goal in the fourth quarter, but the young squad did enough to pull out the win.
Wyalusing (1-1) will host Canton on Tuesday.
