NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: NEB FALLS TO NP-LIBERTY (2021-01-20)

Northern Tier Sports Report
LIBERTY — Northeast Bradford ran into a buzzsaw defense as they lost to the defending NTL Division-II champions NP-Liberty 54-28 in boys’ basketball action Wednesday.

The Panthers were held to 10 first half points in the loss to the Mountaineers.

Lucas Crown led the NEB effort with 16 points while Nick Beers added five. Sam Abell scored three, Julian Jampo had two with Ethan Finch and Dan Seeley both adding one.

It was tough from the beginning for NEB as NPL guard Noah Spencer was hot from the opening tip, scoring 12 first quarter points to give the Mounties an 18-1 lead after the first eight minutes.

In the second quarter Crown did his best to try and bring NEB back, netting seven of the team’s nine points, but NPL stayed hot, pouring in 17 themselves.

They had three 3-pointers in the second quarter and got the free throw line at will, shooting 10-for-14 in the first half.

Down 35-10 at the half the Panthers got some traction in the third quarter as Crown netted five points while Beers chipped in with two buckets to help them out score NPL 12-9 to cut it to 44-22.

The lead was just too much, though, as Spencer finished with 20 points for the Mounties, to go with six steals, five assists and five boards.

Brandon Thompson, their 6-foot, 7-inch center, added 16 points, nine boards and two blocks.

NEB (1-4) heads back out west on Friday as they travel to Williamson with a 6 p.m. start.
