NTL WRESTLING: WYALUSING EARNS PROGRAM'S 900TH WIN IN SECOND PLACE FINISH AT GARY WOODRUFF DUALS (2023-12-09)
Northern Tier Sports ReportWYALUSING — Wyalusing took second at their Gary Woodruff Memorial Duals, and nabbed the program’s 900th dual meet win along the way.
They are the second NTL team to get to the milestone, with Towanda earning their 900th earlier this week.
“I really emphasized to our guys to be proud of this moment,” said Wyalusing coach Michael Earle. “Nine programs in the state now have this accomplishment and us being one of them is something special to be part of. And, it was really a great match to have it happen on. Pocono Mountain East is a solid team where all their wrestlers battled hard and you can tell they were well coached.”
They wound up winning 42-28 over Pocono Mountain East in the semifinals to earn the milestone.
“Our whole team contributed to that win with a couple less experienced guys really coming through for us,” said Earle. “Bumping Ayden Hunsinger, Ethan Vanderpool and Danny Fox up a weight class and all of them coming through with big wins was huge. Getting wins from four of our last five guys to finish the comeback and overcoming a forfeit at the end was really impressive. Bostyn McMicken and Mathew Johnson really stepped up as freshmen in a crucial situation. It was a great match to get our 900th.”
The Rams went 4-1 on the day, going 3-0 in pool wrestling, and ultimately fell to champions Wallenpaupack, 43-26.
Isaiah Harvey, CJ Carr, Cade McMicken, and Ayden Hunsinger all went 5-0 on the day for the Rams, with Matthew Johnson and Daniel Fox both going 4-1. Jonathan Earle, Ethan Vanderpool, and Bostyn McMicken also had winning records on the day, going 3-2.
“On the day, going 4-1, and taking second with a team that has one junior and two seniors in the starting line-up is a pretty good day,” Earle said. “But, having the leadership of CJ Carr, Ayden Hunsinger and Cade McMicken has a lot to do with that success. I really can not ask for better guys in that role and I'm excited about how much we are going to improve this season.”
In their 66-6 win over Nanticoke Jackson Fischer (121), Carr (139), Earle (145), Hunsinger (160), Vanderpool (172), Jesse Lamb (189), and Fox (215) all had falls with Harvey (114), Johnson (127), Cade McMicken (152), and Bostyn McMicken (107) each getting forfeits.
They followed that tup with a 48-27 win over Blue Ridge that saw Johnson (127), Cade McMicken (152), and Hunsinger (160) earn falls, with Fischer (121), Carr (133), Fox (215), and Colton Robinson (285) each scoring forfeits.
They ended pool wrestling with a 54-22 win over Montrose. Carr (133), Earle (145), Cade McMicken (152), Hunsinger (160), Vanderpool (172), Fox (215), Bostyn McMicken (107), and Johnson (127) each had falls, with Harvey (114) getting a forfeit.
They would beat Pocono Mountain East to get their program’s 900th win. Hunsinger (172), Vanderpool (189), Fox (215), Bostyn McMicken (107), Harvey (114), Johnson (127), and Carr (133) all scored falls with Cade McMicken (152) getting an 8-2 decision.
In the finals against Wallenpaupack Cade McMicken (152), Harvey (114), and Carr (133) had falls with Earle (145) and Hunsinger (172) getting major decisions.
